Modifying TAGs for consent mode<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point we move on to the configuration of the tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tags can be divided into two macro-categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I <strong>Google tags<\/strong>such as analytics or Google Ads tags. This type of tag has the <strong>native support for consent mode<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All other tracking codes<\/strong>all other types of tags, such as Facebook, Tik Tok and others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Configuring Google Tags with Consent Mode v2<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Let's start with Google Tags<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To continue with the next steps, keep in mind that the two configuration modes introduced with Consent Mode v2 are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>BASIC configuration<\/strong>: in this mode, if users deny cookie consent, no data is transmitted to Google, not even in aggregated or anonymous form. This configuration represents the most restrictive and conservative approach to consent management, particularly suitable if you do not conduct marketing or advertising campaigns on platforms like Meta or Google Ads.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>ADVANCED configuration<\/strong>: unlike the basic version, the advanced mode continues to send data to Google in aggregated and non-identifiable form even if users do not accept cookies. This approach maintains the traditional Consent Mode operation, offering greater flexibility for those conducting online marketing and advertising campaigns.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Let us take as an example the <strong>Google configuration tags<\/strong>Under 'Advanced Settings' go to 'Consent Settings'. Here you will find three choices:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Not set<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No additional consent required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Additional consent is required to activate the tag<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"682\" height=\"707\" src=\"https:\/\/media.jumpgroup.it\/avacy-website\/uploads\/2024\/05\/google-tag-consent-mode-v2.jpg\" alt=\"Google tag consent mode v2\" class=\"wp-image-3229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/media.avacysolution.com\/avacywebsite\/uploads\/2024\/05\/google-tag-consent-mode-v2.jpg 682w, https:\/\/media.avacysolution.com\/avacywebsite\/uploads\/2024\/05\/google-tag-consent-mode-v2-289x300.jpg 289w, https:\/\/media.avacysolution.com\/avacywebsite\/uploads\/2024\/05\/google-tag-consent-mode-v2-12x12.jpg 12w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you select the \"<strong>Not set<\/strong>\" you will enter the<strong> advanced consent mode<\/strong>. Conversely, by selecting the \"<strong>Additional consent is required to activate the tag<\/strong>\" will be activated <strong>basic mode <\/strong>and the Google tag will not be activated when the user rejects these flags. For all other tracking codes, such as Meta, Linkedin or Tik Tok, it is necessary to follow the <strong>basic implementation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then, follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Within the tag configuration go to 'Advanced Settings'.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under 'Consent Settings' select 'Additional consent is required for tag activation'.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Set the activator to the<strong>customised event<\/strong> you configured earlier, i.e. <strong><em>avacy_consent_update<\/em><\/strong> (see step 3).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case, events will only be activated if the user consents to data tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to check that the setup is correct: Debug Google Consent Mode v2<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once we have followed all the steps above, all that remains is to <strong>check that the setup is correct<\/strong>! To do this, it is important to monitor two fronts: on the one hand the Tag Manager debug, so as to verify that the consent status is correctly registered, and on the other hand the web page itself which, thanks to a plugin, verifies in real time what the user's consent status is. Let's see them together:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Use the InfoTrust plugin for Chrome<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>InfoTrust<\/strong> is a leading digital solutions company specialising in data analysis and digital marketing.
